FAST: A scale to Evaluate Hospice Eligibility for a Dementia Patient

Question: My mom is declining and she has alzheimers but her symptoms seem so vague. How do I quantify what is happening so I know if she is ready for a hospice referral?

Patients must meet specific disease criteria as they decline that prove their need for hospice care. For a patient to be admitted to hospice care under Medicare, certain standards must be met to ensure eligibility. Then once on hospice, we use these scales to track a patient’s decline and comfort.
