Question: I think my dad is ready for hospice. Do I ask his primary doctor or his heart doctor?
The Hospice Care Response: When a patient is ready for hospice, there must be an order from the patient's physician or primary care provider. It can be a specialist also but it is the medical provider who plans on following the patient. Then there also must be a provider on the hospice side that confirms the patient is eligible.
